Stayed in Port Hadland, BHP Billiton ship all their iron ore out from here, the boats are huge and they just pump hundreds of tonnes of iron ore into them one after another to send around the world!
We headed into Karratha town to sort some bits out – we thought we might have had a slow puncture in one of our tyres so we headed to the tyre shop. When we explained that we were about to embark on a trip to Alice Springs via the Tanami Road (approx 800kms of dirt road) and then we would be driving the Gibb River Road from Wyndham to Kununurra (about another 800kms of dirt road) they took one look at our tyres and shook their heads!! We therefore decided to take their advice and spent a small fortune on BF Goodrich Mud Terrain Tyres – they look they should belong on a tractor!! But feeling more confident on our ability to get down these crazy dirt roads!
