Joao wasn't interested in this trip so the trio of day trippers was reduced to two. Had a much lazier start and arrived in Chidambaram bout midday. Nick is a very nice, intelligent guy and was a pleasure to travel with. We first walked around the Nataraja temple, the main attraction of Chidambaram to most people. Although a massive complex (by far the biggest temple complex me or Nick had been in so far) we both found it far less interesting than the temples we saw at Kumbakonam, though still worth seeing. We observed several people in the inner part of the temple taking part in the Puja/darsham before deciding we'd seen enough of the temple and walking around town for a while, stopping en route for a thali. What the guidebooks say about Chidambaram from my opinion is true, there isn't much there except for the temple, and certainly nothing worth staying there for. Got a very comfy bus back to Pondi where we met up with Joao and the others for a drink, as it was his birthday.
