??? ??, 2007
Not the best time this time around in Penang, arrived and spent the best part of 2 hrs wandering the streets with both my packs looking for the Indonesian embassy, being too stubborn to pay for a taxi there. Got there, and like the others, it was bloody closed. Now decided however that i would still go to Indonesia and would take the visa on arrival for Sumatra, as i was closest to there (no more flying for me). Got next day ferry ticket and pretty much wasted the rest of my time in Penang, before an early departure for the ferry the next day.
Got to the ferry port when i was told to, and obviously (I'm in Asia after all) they were nowhere near ready and i had loads of time. The Indonesian gate opened shortly after the 'LANGKAWI LANGKAWI LANGKAWI LAAAAAAAANNNNNNNGGGGKKKKKAAAAAAAWWWWWWEEEEEEE, LAST CALL LANGKAWI' chants from the officials seized, and then the mad rush began. Here i witnessed what corrin and Matt had described to me of the craziness surrounding Malaysian queuing; the line deteriorated into a ball of people swarming over the entrance to the gate. Typical Malaysian style.
Anyhow got through ok and got onto the ferry, ate my nasi lemak brekky and waited for my Indonesian journey to begin...

Hi there
glad to see you are enjoying your travels.
a point to your blogs about typical malay style for the langkawi ferry. perhaps you should reword this to typical malaysian style, malay is one of many races, malaysian is the nationality(i sure your friend farah would have pointed this out to you:) otherwise this looks like the a common mistake made by travellers to malaysia and could be seen as racist.
thanks
