Arrived in Ayutthaya, after a dodgy phone call to Gina left me wondering if she would remember me at all. Was met with ecstatic smiling and shouting when i got there, so that worry was unfounded. My lazy time here in Ayutthaya began at at that moment. Spent the day trying to learn a little Thai and in the evening Gina took us all out for a meal at the night market, which she again refused to let me pay anything for.
Second day in Ayutthaya didn't go too well. The start of the day was nice; Caro, i German girl in a six week holiday in Thailand, arrived for her 12 day stay here during which she wants to learn about Thai language and lifestyle. She is a really nice, friendly girl and we got on really well, walked to the market and bought some fruit (my favourite activity). Then i had to do it didn't i, i had to go and open my mouth. 'How did you arrive at Moradok Thai then?' i asked her. Anyway, it turns out that she booked her accommodation at a TAT and to be precise she fell for exactly the same scam i did, by the very same people. So i unfortunately ended up breaking the news to her, reducing her to tears on her first day here. Good one Ben.
But it get worse, two other girls arrived and saw caro crying, so asked her why she was crying. She explained to them about the TAT and it turns out they booked through one too. So they had a think about their package and they were shortly in tears too. Well done Ben, anyone else you wanna make cry? Not the best start to my stay here. Oh well Spent the next day checking out Wat Mahathat, seemingly the most famous temple in Ayutthaya due to it featuring the remains of a Buddha statue embedded in a tree. Apart from that it isn't that remarkable a ruin, some others around the town are far nicer. Had my usual wander down to the market, got a free mango, then checked out a few other ruins on my way back to the guest house. In the evening Gina took us all for that volcano style barbecue that i talked about on my last stay here, and (surprise surprise) refused to let any of us pay again. This was again great and very tasty, though i do wish if they are gonna put meat into my bowl for me to eat that they put in the squid or the beef, not the rind of the bloody bacon! God I'm fussy and inconsiderate, getting free meals and all I'm doing is complaining.
Anyway, i stayed here for a while so i better start cutting this down. Other eventful occurrences: Me and Caro went to a local school to try and teach English a few days: first day they showed us round, fed us lunch, then that was it, we were expected to leave. Second day there they had a school trip to Bangkok science fair, so we were taken (pack lunches and all) with a bus load of 8-12 yr old Thai kids to Bangkok, where we were led around a huge science exhibition by a group of four girls. Was pretty strange being literally twice the size of everyone there, let alone the fact that we were the only falang for miles (except a few teachers).
Did a day of bike riding round all the ruins and local sights with Caro, went to a crazy night club in town (ay by lazer) complete with lady boy performances on stage and the guy from the TAT sleazin on a Japanese girl staying at the hostel. Had a party to see me off which was cool too. More thumbnails ...
