So after sleeping off yellow mountain We left the hotel, escorted by our maniac driver ( who were later expected to tip 300 yuan, he can't even drive!) and stopped at this no horse town, where the highlight (and only 'light') was observing piles of firewood. I could barely contain myself.
After cooling off and calming down, we returned to the bus for yet another fascinating stopoff at the 'corridor bridge', which was, yep you've guessed it, a bridge that looked like a corridor. Bet you wish you were here now eh! By this time it was very obvious that today was simply gonna be a time killing exercise until our 10:30pm train journey to Shanghai. After lunch in the old town We had about 5 hours to waste in the area. It was a nice area, though 5 hours didn't really warrant enough time to do anything in particular.
The reactions of different generations to my presence here is really quite interesting though. While the middle aged people seem to go about their business, ignoring my presence, the older generation seem to resent my presence ( i felt like they were staring as in to say 'i don't really want you here') and yet the younger generation seem generally fascinated by me and are eager to talk to me. As an example a group of young school kids followed me round a park trying to talk English to me! I guess the reason for these generational differences is due to the importance China places on learning English these days, as the country advances economically and commercially, whereas as recently as 20 years ago, i imagine there was hardly any call for it, and Westerners were rarely seen!
Dinner was fantastic, in a very fancy restaurant, and it was nice to see Dragons face light up when we got inside, despite the fact that he clearly hadn't reserved a table and due to the business of the restaurant we had to sit at a table for 4, (there was 5 of us) rather than us waiting and dragon 'losing face'. By the way, saving face in China is a major part of their cultural heritage!
