Where I stayed
When we arrived, it was like stepping back in time... to America! The mall was just the same as any in an America city and had most of the major shops and food brands that you could imagine. It was such a culture shock after being in small, under-developed towns and countries for so long, we felt a little like aliens at first and just gawped as we watched people shopping and eating, a very strange feeling.
But, like true westerners, it did not take us too long to get back into the swing of things and we had a good old walk around the shops looking for a pair of shorts for Annabelle (as hers are a little big for her) and some new flip flops for us both, finally bagging a flip flop bargain when we found great replacement pairs for $2
As the heat of Panama took us by surprise and the hostel did not have the best facilities in the world, we decided to go to the movies! Yes the mall also had a cinema, and the films were in English ... woo hoo! So we bought tickets and even managed to get a student discount – two tickets for $6 ... bargain! We watched The Tourist with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, not a great film but it was just nice as we had not been to the cinema for so long. After the film we wandered around again only to eventually decide to go and see another film, anything to avoid the 12 bed hostel. This time we went to see the new Matt Damon film, a very long winded affair about him being a psychic.
Leaving the mall we were very happy with our film watching skills and headed back to the hostel for some rest as tomorrow we would have a full day of tourist action.
