After a short journey we arrived at Bryce Canyon in the rain, yippee, finally a chance to give our packamacks a run out! We prepared our bag for a good hike and got ready to ship out.  The rain very soon subsided and the heat started to ramp up very quickly but our enthusiasm did not wane!

Using our new love for hiking and with an improved map reading ability we set off from Sunrise point and planned to take the Queens Garden Trail, followed by the Navajo Loop and the Peekaboo Loop heading towards Bryce Point.  From Bryce Point we had planned to walk back to Sunrise point via the rim trail, a cool 7.4  miles we thought, no problem! In actual fact we had not realised how much the elevation on the Peekaboo Loop would kill us in the heat of the day (plenty of stops and much swearing in the shade).  On reflection our map reading skills are obviously still not up to scratch as the Peekaboo Loop is clearly stated as being a strenuous hike with an elevation change of 1755 feet!  In actual fact we managed a very tiring 5.2 miles and ended up very grateful for the park shuttle for the final leg back to Sunrise Point.  Despite all the pain it was well worth it, the close up views of the Hoodoos that we had as we navigated the Amphitheatre were the best we had witnessed to this point, again only the photo's will do them justice!  This incredible natural wonder blew us away!  Never having heard of a Hoodoo we loved seeing them from above and then after a steep decline seeing them tower over us.  Such a stunning place.

On our return to the Sunrise Point we both took a well deserved shower, one of the nicest we have had since taking the bus, this turned out to be a brilliant move as it was the last proper shower prior to Vegas.  We did our usual tour of the gift shop and picked up yet another magnet and postcard!

We then headed to Kodachrome Basin State Park where we set up camp again for the night.  On arrival we pitched the tent in the rain and whilst Annabelle played house, Chris joined the boys in cooking an Italian feast!  Chefs privilege was red wine, needless to say that this spurned another night of fun around the camp fire.   Annabelle cackling with Eamonn and Carmel and Chris trying to have an intelligent conversation with Johannes (whilst drunk on 3.2% Beer, oh the shame of it!!!)...
