The island is actually part French (Saint Martin) and part Dutch (Sint Maarten) with 3 currencies used, the USD, the Euro and the Netherland Antillies Guilder which makes for some interesting financial transactions.... We anchored on the French Side in Marigot Bay and did our exploring of the island from there. Hiring a car we drove round in just a few hours without getting lost once... Not a great achievement with really only one major road.

There were a few things we really liked about St Martin, on the Dutch side the main town is Philipsburg where most of the major cruise liners come into, it has great duty fee shopping in which the boys were able to get a few things with their Christmas and Birthday money. It has a fantastic supermarket with all the home like delicacies that we crave and thirdly they have an English speaking cinema so we were able to go for the first time in months to see "Yes Man".  We are so easily pleased!

Also on the French side there are some great restaurants really well priced and serving up some delicious food. We had lunch at one in Marigot Bay and Pete and Tom ordered "Skippy and Chips", it was so tender and delicious they raved about it for days.
