We left Barbados for the island of St Lucia which is to the north west, its an old volcanic island with amazing peaks and prehistoric looking jungle fringed by white sand beaches and coconut palms. Our destination was Rodney Bay right at the north of the island to spend Christmas at the marina with the Aussies, Kiwis, Canadians, French, German, American, British etc etc .

On Christmas Eve we took a bus ride into Castries which is the capital to have a look around at the local markets and have lunch local style. Most offering are the same as on other islands just with the name changed.

I managed to buy a few Christmassy things in Europe (pudding, custard, chocolates) not knowing what would be available in the shops here on the islands. Lucky as there wasn't much to choose from and the prices were pretty frightening but thanks to those Kiwis and their sheep we were able to secure a leg of lamb ($70 AUD) for our Christmas dinner. The weather here has been temperamental with stinking hot one minute and pouring rain the next but Christmas Day was sunny and hot all day so by 2 o'clock we were ready to celebrate our 5 course Christmas Dinner. It was nice to have Matt and John with us and made it feel a more festive. Following dinner we rolled off Bella and went to join friends on Seamist for drinks and more food......

The boys got a silent chaos to drag behind the dinghy for Christmas and have been zooming around the bay getting air and burning fuel and basically having a good time.....

Boxing Day we went on an island adventure tour in an open top extended Land Rover Defender. This took us up into the hills of St Lucia and down the coast to some fishing villages and waterfalls. The island has some stunning bays one which was where "Doctor Doolittle" (the original) was made and is now home to some famous people such as Oprah, although she's probably got a house on every island in the Caribbean!
