After spending a few nights in small bays surrounded by boat loads of naked French, Spanish and German sailors who like to do their morning ablutions on the aft of their boats, we decided to hightail it to Mahon the main port in Menorca. It supposedly is the 2nd biggest harbour in the world after Pearl Harbour but I guess they've never seen Sydney, in comparison it looked more like an estuary but hey maybe there is a technicality I'm unaware of.

Anyway besides the issue of size, its pretty and well protected with an interesting town. When we arrived there were 20 or more old style yachts tied up at the marina and we were told they were having a race week for Ex Americas Cup yachts. These boats were beautiful, some over 100 years old, the youngest we saw was 45. They are all immaculately kept and amazing. What was more amazing was watching them sail out of the harbour with the different rigging, and for old girls, they could move!

The town, like a lot we had been to was nice to walk thru, full of old buildings and interesting shops, so different from home. Unfortunatley the boys see this sort of outing in line with going to the dentist (mostly painful) and chose to stay aboard and watch the goings on in the harbour. There's only so much culture they say they can take!
