Had a screamer of sail up from Calpe, 10 - 15 knots, spinnaker up and just cruised along at 9 -10 knots. Loving it. We arrived at Denia just as the winds picked up and given our tie up trials at Calpe the day before we were a bit gun shy and so we decided to drop anchor just outside the breakwall instead. From here Pete and I went on a recon mission to sus out the Marina and just how windy it was in there. With quite a lot of wind chop right on our nose Pete near killed me reliving his surf club days pounding thru the chop in the inflatable only to arrive at a very classy looking marina wet and bedraggled. Conditions were actually quite calm and after talking to reception we headed back to get Bella. Tying up was a cinch and our confidence was restored. Not long after tying up Pete started to chatting (how unusual you say) to an English guy Mick off the Cat behind us. In which we were all invited aboard for drinks, so nice to talk to someone who understands you and has a similar sense of humour
The problem with cats are they are quite large, so we therefore tend to get tied up alongside the larger varieties. As Denia is close to the Ballearic Islands there are many of these so called super yachts, lots of them used for charter work and we are placed in the Millionaire Row. We are very happy and proud of our Bella but against these things you feel a tad insecure. The boys in particular look at these things with awe and say wouldn't it be great to own that. For them it's not the prestige of owning such a boat but for the SPEED they can do. Most of these beasts do between 20 - 30 knots, where as we might average 6 - 7 knots, so what takes them a couple of hours takes us 10 to the frustration of our boys. The other thing with these boats is most of them have garages. Yes garages. Hydraulic arms start to lift, choirs of heavenly angels start to sing and bright lights like hollywood spotlights reveal a treasure trove. First out comes the little smart car followed by 6 mopeds, 4 bicycles, 1 jet boat, 2 jet skis, 6 kayaks, several blow up things for towing, 4 reclining floats and a noodle. The boys drool has now reached the ground as we drag them back on board and console their whimpering cries. Yes for boys it's all about the speed. As for myself, yes I could see me doing the princess thing quite easily, lazing on the third deck sunning myself on one of the sinfully luxurious recliners and I too need to be consoled
Our time here is short just to reprovision before heading over to the Ballearic Islands. So we head into the town for a look around and a light meal. As most Spanish people seem to be on holidays at this time of the year it seems that most nights there is always a party happening in Spain and tonight (Monday) seems no different. The main area of Denia like most is a no traffic zone and cafes spill out into the streets with vendors selling balloons and trinkets and traditional musicians play up and down the street to the diners. Overhead there are coloured lights and the whole area has a carnival type atmosphere. As we walk back to the marina the fireworks start and while not Sydney New Years Eve or Chinese Opening Ceremony standard they make a beautiful sight from the waterfront. What they are in aid of, who knows !

. Not to mention that this guy was a rock climbing, speed freak type of nut so there were some interesting stories to be told. The problem with cats are they are quite large, so we therefore tend to get tied up alongside the larger varieties.
