Day 5
Yesterday was our last day in La Fortuna, so during the morning we wandered around the city and stopped at most of the gift shops and ate a small meal before leaving. Our Taxi-Boat-Taxi picked us up at 250, which was late like usual, and drove us approximately 20 minutes around the Arenal volcano where we met a boat that would drive us across the Arenal Lake to meet another bus. Our boat ride was 30 to 45 minutes then we rode another taxi for 1 hour to get to La Fortuna. The road wasn't paved and had lots of potholes and was pretty smally and curvy around the hills. We finally made it to Santa Elena, a city in the area of Monteverde that evening. Our hostel that we are staying in is called Sleepers Sleep Cheaper. It is a small family owned hostel, Ronny, his wife, and his three children live here. Ronny is really nice and has been really helpful with setting up tours. After getting situated we walked into town and ate at The Tree House. Which was a cute little resturant that literally had a tree growing in the middle. The food was excellent, for an appertizer we had cheesy garlic bread. Katherine had a salad and Lauren ate a pizza, which was big enough to feed 3 people and only cost 7$. Unforunately most of it went to waste because of no refrigerator. That night we went to bed early because we were tired.
Day 6
Today we got up and Ronny and his wife fixed us breakfast, which was free. We had decided last night to do the ATV tour. We were picked up from our hostel at around 1030 and taken to the 100% Aventura office. Then taken directly to our ATVS. We were able to ride through the dry forrest, which is right before the rainforest. We didn't see any animals except a colorful snake. Which our crazy tour guide picked up. It was really neat being able to ride 4wheelers because when we went on top of the hills the clouds were so low you could hardly see. And one thing that is different about Monteverde, people let their cows graze pretty much anywere. So sometimes we had to be careful not to hit them. After our ride we took a nap until our Night Walks Tour through part of the rainforest. It was raining in the beginning so it wasn't fun and there weren't many animals. However, we were able to see 2 HUGE trantulas, manaquine *a type of bird native to CR*, a sleeping toucan, other big insects, and even saw a 2 toed slough hanging out in a tree. Since it was so dark we weren't able to get any pictures of most of the animals. Now we are back at the hostel and going to bed early because we are going on a Canopy tour, where we will swing through the trees and a hanging bridge tour and maybe go to the San Luis Waterfall depending on when we get back
