We were going to get up at the crack of dawn this morning and drive to the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve, but we just couldn't manage it. Instead, I took Cassie for a walk in the morning to a little island in the park where she swam, and got some great pictures of a Loon.

We finally did head out for the Game Preserve in the afternoon, and it was quite a drive to even get there. The town right outside of the preserve, Chapleau, is a horrible little place filled with lumber yards and heavy machine industries. I didn't realize that the road into the preserve was actually gravel all the way. My original thought was to take the road all the way into a provincial park, about 75 km, but the condition of the road made it very slow going and we only made it about 50 km in.

However, it was really beautiful with water everywhere, and although we didn't see a moose, we got to see a mother Black Bear and her two cubs. The mother and one of the cubs had just crossed the road about 50 yards ahead of us, when she saw (or heard) the car coming, and she stopped her other cub from crossing. We pulled over and stopped the car, she waited a minute to make sure we weren't coming closer, and then she told her other cub to cross, which it did. Then they disappeared into the woods. It was amazing.

I also saw a couple of beavers swimming around in one of the ponds and managed to get some pictures. We had seen a beaver at the campground, but we weren't sure it really was one, but after seeing these two, it definitely confirmed it.
