Yo yo yo, how yor vibes?
Trying to pick up some lingo from the locals but they say everything backwards so its quite hard to understand!
Anyway, 'started' work today. Got to the hospital (after an incident inside the car...explain after this) and got shown round, all fine. Then went to find my consultant who is supposed to be supervising me, and turns out he is on holiday!! He's supposed to be back tomorrow, but he starts at 10am! (most people start their day between 6 and 8am here). So, if i ever get this elective started, there may not be much going on. If thats the case, I might try and get squeezed in somewhere else like the medical wards. Seems to be plenty going on in there.
Yeah, the car incident, a bit freaky! Got in the car this morning all fine, got the engine going, air con on, out the drive and pick up a bit of speed. U know sometimes in autumn u may get a leaf or something stuck in the vents and bits might fly out? Well, not here! To my surprise, I got showered in ants!! Not only that, they were all carrying their larvae! So had to stop and kill about 100 ants but drivin along they wre still finding their way onto me, so every now and again peering down at my crotch to find it swarming with ants!! I imagine i reacted much the same as if i had dropped a fag on my lap! Managed to kill the buggers and avoid oncomming traffic at the same time :) But now got the vents loaded up with anti-creepy crawly spray and basically the whole of the inside of the car.
So what else I been doin? Well, seems like ive been here ages already for some reason so probs wont remember everything. Friday night we went down towards grand anse beach area (just down from the girls' flat) for a meal, the first local food ive had. Was quite nice. I had callaloo soup (which is their equivalent of spinach) which was, em, gloopy, but not that bad on the palate. But then had lambi creole for main course. Think this is a shell fish of sorts. was really nice, quite like a chinese i thought. We all had a rum punch (which certainly punched!
Em, saturday was lounging around for the morning. then in the afternoon, brought all the girls round to mine (all 7 of them!) hehe. They all lined up outside my flat on the sunloungers, was quite a sight! Me bithces! Cooked them all chile con carne coz meet here isnt too expensive like everything else. Then played for a few hours on the football table, tenis table, pool table in my games room :)
Sunday was a right-off, and it rained like mad!!! Check the video out (if i can upload it). Then today was the hospital, but this afternoon we are heading over to the rum factory (as all medical students should, just to improve international relations etc). So that should be good. Only problem is im driving! Damnit!!!! Dont think there are any drink driving laws here, but the way they drive anyway, id like to be sober!
So will report back when theres more to say,

first meal out together (nice male/female ratio!)
! most of the girls were quite drunk after that) then a pinocolada, best things in the world! From there we went onto a club some american student had recommended, called club bananas. Looks dodgy during the day but at night its all lit green and really tropical. It was quite nice actually, except we arrived a bit too early and hardly anyone was there. Dont think we would have been able to stay awake either. U get tired by about 9pm here.Em, saturday was lounging around for the morning. then in the afternoon, brought all the girls round to mine (all 7 of them!) hehe. It's a tough job ....
Right - I think I get the picture.
When you're not in the bar (nice pix, btw, mine's the corner seat looking out to the boats, and if I'm not mistaken that's MY empty pinacolada glass in shot as well ...), or entertaining dozens of ladeez at your place, or driving about beating your crotch (is that a solo activity, or do the said ladeez assist?) then you're at WORK.
Except that work doesn't start until 10 in the morning, and there's nothing to do anyway... Oh, and you have to go to bed at 9 at night because you're just plain knackered...
So this is a really hard elective, right? Where do I find the application forms? Can I be a doctor too? Obviously, it's a tough job but somebody's got to do it!
One small question: you keep referring to grand anse beach. Is that really what it's called, or is it a typo? Just asking - the view from the bar must be absolutely amazing (you didn't upload those pix!).
Anyway, I'm not at all jealous - I'm currently gazing out of my office window, through the rain and the traffic fumes, at the derelict abattoir across the road; and when I get home tonight, I might manage an out of date can of Tetley's best bitter (or is that Retchley's best pisser?). So, me, jealous? Nah.
Have fun, Dad.
