After a disappointing first impression of Berlin we rise & shine eager to see if we can get on a Segway tour of the city. Segways are those scooter things that u stand on (see my pics).

We try out the cheap (€3) all u can eat breaky at the hostel and are impressed with the continental spread and coffee machine. Is that salami? For breakfast? Yep. I skipped that and had jam on toast.

Off we trot to the Tour place. I have hurt (twisted) my right foot from the cobblestones in Amsterdam so the recommended walking your is out. Jai was like an excited little kid when we saw the brochure for segways so we'll c how coordinated I can be. We stroll past the boutique shops and follow the Fernsehturm (tv tower) to the tour place.

Our guide Wallede was a black gay Englishman with a dirty sense of humor (good fun tho). He taught us the basics and we had a practice around a few obstacles to get the feel of it. Lotsa fun! Off we go to see the sights (see my pics with descriptions) and weaving through traffic(which of course comes at us from the wrong side of the road!) scary!!

After the Segway tour we hire free bikes to do some more exploring. We ride out to the East Side Gallary with no idea what to expect. This is by far the best thing we have seen in Berlin. It is a 1.3km section of the actual berlin wall that has been transformed into an outdoor open (&free) gallery. Very impressive and we had heaps of fun on the bikes!

We're totally puffed by the time we return the bikes and head to the fancy Vietnamese restaurant on the way home for Jai's first taste of vietnamese cuisine. Unbelievable food and cocktails and home made lemonade. Discover later that's it's one of the best restaurants in Berlin!

We head up to the hostel bar for a few drinks before meeting Mark McKinnan (friend from Melb) who has moved to Berlin for a year. Berlin has the 3rd largest population of homosexuals. Sydney is no. 1!!

Catching up with Mark was great, he gave us more background on Berlin and insight into what it's really like here. The ppl are no nicer than we first thought. Jai & mark spotted a fox running across the road into bushes ( we're pretty much in the middle of the city)

Way too many beers, last to leave the pub at close, bedtime!
