Day 187 - Woke up early for my Kiwi Experience day trip to Milford Sound. It took five hours to get there and you know how I said that my good luck with the weather was going to run out sooner or later... well it did... today! Torrential rain and gale force winds - hurrah! The Fjordland NP was stunning, despite the weather, with massive U-shaped valleys, lakes, forests and blus glaciers, but also with the added bonus of hundreds of waterfalls lining the valley sides, which was quite a sight.
We drove though an old tunnel, picked by hand and on quite a steep incline and arrived at Milford Sound ferry terminal. We boarded the boat and tucked into the buffet included in the trip, but before we set off, the captain announced that the weather was too bad to go out and the cruise was cancelled! So disappointing!
So back on the bus we got, for the 5 hour journey back to town. Apparently the snowboarders had been told that we needed to clean up our room it was such a mess - I can understand as no new guest would want to stay in there! Time for decent sleep patterns and a detox - Queenstown is a sadder place now my Stray group have gone!
