We left Yulara at 06:20 and headed to the Olgas. We arrived at the sunrise viewing platform just in time for sunrise, which was well worth the early start! Beautiful yellow rays were streaming onto the Olgas and we had a panoramic view of the rocks. We could also see Uluru in the distance with the sun rising beside it.
We then drove another 15km to the Valley of the Winds walk. Again, time wasn't on our side because we had a flight to catch. So instead of doing the full three hour circuit, we just walked to the second outlook and back. The whole walk was beautiful, the trail taking us through the valley, with lots of trees and plants. Both lookouts provided lovely views of the Olgas and its surroundings but the second lookout was the prettiest view with the trees and hills in the distance.
We rushed back to Ayers Rock airport to catch out. When we arrived at the airport, we discovered that our flight had been cancelled and we'd been put on an earlier flight. We only just made it and that was because the earlier flight had been delayed slightly - we were so lucky!
We arrived to pouring rain in Sydney at about 17:00. We checked into Y hotel on the Park, which is a nice but cheap hotel that I stayed in last time I visited Sydney.
We took a stroll in the pouring rain to Darling Harbour, which is only about 10 minutes away but in that time, my trousers got drenched! We found a restaurant overlooking the harbour. Darling Harbour is one of my favourite places in Sydney - it's filled with lots of different boats and surrounded by the bright lights of the hotels, company towers and the restaurants and bars that line the harbourside. There's a pedestrian bridge that takes you across  from one side of the harbour to the other. Since I last came, a large shopping mall has been addd, which is open until 21:00 every night.
Despite the rain, it was an enjoyable evening and great to be back in one of my favourite cities!
