Arrived the hostel at lunchtime. We dumped our things and headed to Ipanema beach. It is slightly cleaner than Copacabana but the sea is dirty, smelly and there is litter everywhere. Not the most inviting of waters to swim in! Also the sea is quite rough and even if you just want to dip your feet in, you're likely to get caught in a big wave!
It was a beautiful, sunny day and sat with book in one hand, caiparinha in the other - strong stuff and at 4 Real a pop, it would be a cheap way to get plastered!
I like our bedroom - with one bright pink wall, it has an old fashioned, dark wooden bed with headboard - it's almost falling apart with a few bricks keeping it together - but that adds to the quirkiness of the room. There are wind chimes at the window and when the wooden shutters are open, the sunlight pours through. There is no light and so we have a bedside lamp, which makes the room cosy.
I was feeling a bit tired and dehydrated and so we just went for a bite to eat, a place called Galitos Grill, for chicken, chips and rice and then we went back for an early night. Although I'm keen to explore the party life of Rio, it can wait for another night!
