Found a local cafe style restaurant for lunch, where all the waiters wore bow ties. We had difficulty interpreting the menu and the waiter tried to explain by making 'moo' noises for beef! We ended up with steak, chips and rice. We then had to get a metro to the main bus station to book our tickets to Foz du Iguazu for tomorrow (200 Real each).
We read about Bixiga, the 'Little Italy' district of Sao Paulo and thought we would go an explore. We walked miles in the sweltering heat and could not find it. As we couldn't find a tourist information, we had to make do with the guide book map, which was not very extensive to say the least. We got lost many times. We finally found it - tired, sweaty and thirsty, we stopped at the first cafe we found and had a much needed ice cold beer. Disappointed that after spending all afternoon walking, only to discover there was nothing to see, defeated we headed back to our hotel.
After a quick freshen up, we went out for a cocktail and then found a 'self service' restaurant. These are quite famous in South America, where you get an all you can eat buffet (churrascaria) and the waiters bring skewers of all different meats around for you to try. The food was never ending and we were both completely stuffed for about a fiver each!
Tip: don't put 50 Real in your underpants! Mike thought he was being clever by hiding it from potential muggers but it fell out while walking around!
