So yep arrived in Lima and managed to get to our hostel. The guy couldnt get our names right and so everyone was called someone else, for the duration of our 2 night stay...the bed cleanliness was a bit dodgy but overall the hostel was good, we spent our time in the city centre and I ate just about everything in sight. There was a marathon on and so it took twice as long to get anywhere...but we had fun wandering around buying bracelets and other things which we would soon lose ! Lima is a crazy city and is absolutely massive! We managed to make it to the sea one day which was cool, looks like a good place to surf but there are a lot of rocks? Still tons of surfers though. We ate picadores (some kind of donut) and shopped for random stuff. We found out that prices were cheaper in Cuzco so we stopped shopping, and we took a taxi to our next hotel: Hotel Castellana, which was our GAP ADVENTURES accommodation, from whence we would be departing for our Inca Trekking trip.
I really liked Lima, even though I didnīt have many expectations for it. Itīs massive and different in parts of the city from other parts, but the food is good and shops stay open past 10pm! There are always people walking around. I felt quite safe there, more so than say Brazil.
The taxi drivers are friendly, the one laughed at me for singing along with BILLIE JEAN in his car, and the more banged up a taxi is the cheaper it will be. You agree on the price before you go (this involves some knowledge of Spanish) and then off you go, into some kind of crazy video game except the only thing that doesnt happen is CRAAAASH! Seriously I dont know how they do it but it was even crazier than Thailand! (Please see previous blog: Crazy Girl on a Bike)
Next update: Cuzco!
