And, lo and behold, as Carlo and I were walking away from Tantawan we heard a squeal and Nicola rocketed herself at me. I squealed in kind, embracing her as we both danced a giddy dance. Introductions were made all around and the three of us headed off to explore for a bit.
Eventually we found our way back to the resort that Carlo and I had gotten drinks at the night before and decided to get ourselves some breakfast
After breakfast Carlo and I split from Nicola, making plans to meet up for dinner. Carlo and I were planning on renting a motorbike to do some exploring, but Nicola had some important lounging and swimming to attend to. It took just a bit of searching, but finally Carlo and I found a place with decent motorbikes for rent and were soon kitted up with our bike and helmets.
We spent much of the afternoon just cruising around the streets along the coast, taking in the scenery without a real destination. The traffic was a bit nerve wracking at first, but we quickly became accustomed to the rhythm of the island traffic. At one point we came to a slightly more populated area and decided to stop for a while to shop. We wandered around a market area for a while, making a few purchases for friends, family, and for ourselves. After packing our prizes away in our backpack we were back on the bike.
A wrong turn took us onto more snaking roads that took us away from the coast and towards the mountainous center of the island. We cruised up and down hills, winding our way towards who knows where. We stopped for more gas and took the opportunity to glance at the map to get our bearings. Carlo realized that we had overshot our bungalows and we turned around to correct our mistake. Shortly after that we found the road that we were supposed to be on and Carlo raced towards "home" with me clinging to his back
We made it back in one piece and turned in the motorbike and helmets without a scratch on anything. We went back to our bungalow to show and change, wanting to be presentable for dinner with Nicola. She found us in the Tantawan restaurant and we found a table to sit at together to eat and relax. The Tantawan restaurant has floor seating with low tables and cushions that are perfect for lounging. The ceilings and walls are draped with white shells and bits of coral that enhance the dim, golden light. The thatched ceilings are covered with at least a dozen creeping geckos that make for entertainment when there is a lull in the conversation. We stayed for more than a few hours, eating and chatting away the time. But, eventually we needed to get some rest, the three of us had a big day the next morning and we absolutely needed to be well rested.
