Carlo and I woke early and as tempting as it was to stay in bed we slowly got up and started moving.  We dressed quickly and packed the last of our belongings to head back to the airport.  We found a taxi easily and I bartered the cost of the ride down with no problem.  The sun rose slowly over Bangkok as we cruised towards our next destination.

Check-in and security was easy and soon we were headed towards the food court to get some breakfast before boarding our flight.  Unfortunately, upon further inspection of our boarding passes we noticed that the time on my travel documents and the time on the tickets were not the same.  I am not sure what the issue was… but we were hours early.  Oh well, better early than late, I suppose.

We killed our time in the cafeteria, eating breakfast and messing around on the free wifi that McDonald's gave us when we bought fries.  Then, when it was actually time to go, we boarded the little plane that would take us to Koh Samui airport.  The flight was shockingly brief and with all the pomp and circumstance of flying it barely felt like we were in the air for any time at all.  Soon we were walking off the plane onto the tarmac and then getting into little open-air trollies that brought us to the tiny airport.

The ferry from Koh Samui to Koh Pangan was not as hassle free as I had expected, but in the end we were able to get on board and we made it to the island just fine.  Once there I called the manager of the bungalows that we were staying at and she came to fetch us in a battered pick-up truck.  She cruised through the island streets, easily negotiating the hectic traffic like an old pro.  After about 20 minutes we arrived at Tantawan Bungalows and it was just like the website showed… paradise.

Carlo and I were brought up a long, winding stairway to our bungalow that perched on a steep hill, overlooking the stretch jungle in front of the shore.  We paused on the balcony and turned to look down at what we could see.  Beyond the tree tops was a beautiful stretch of water and I was thrilled to be so close to the beach.  Carlo and I quickly put down our luggage and changed into our swim suits.

The pool water was cool and clean, exactly what we needed after a long morning of traveling in hot and muggy weather.  We bobbed around in the water, stretching out with our faces towards the sun, soaking in the beauty of our surroundings.  After cooling off we shared a plate of pad thai and spring rolls before going to explore.

The beach was easy to find, the road that led down to the shore was immediately across the street from the driveway that led to Tantawan.  We skirted around another few resorts until we found the sand and then we stripped off our shoes and headed to the water.  The beach was called "Secret Beach" and it lives up to its name as a small, quiet, beautiful stretch of white sand in a nook at the North West corner of the island.  We walked with our feet in the surf for a while before continuing our exploring.

We wandered through the grounds of a resort next to the beach, checking out the little gardens, tiki bar, and restaurant that they had.  As we were wandering the heavens opened up and it started to sprinkle so Carlo and I took refuge in the tiki bar, ordering drinks to pass the time.  But, the rain passed before our drinks were even finished so we moved out onto the deck to sip our concoctions and watch the sun set.
