Hello everyone from Kuta in Bali! Last week I was in the town of Kuta on the island of Lombok, and this week I'm in a different town, which is also called Kuta, on the island of Bali. Very strange!

This is going to have to be a quick post because the power keeps going out, but I wanted to make sure I let you all know where I am!

Here's a quick fact about Indonesia which I didn't know before I got here - Indonesia is an archipelago. An archipelago means a group of islands, and Indonesia is made up of more than eighteen thousand islands! That's a LOT of islands!

OK I'll come back tomorrow and tell you all about what I've been doing, and hopefully the power won't keep turning off!

Talk to you then!

Wednesday, February 8

Hello again! I've put up lots of pictures of Indonesia for you to see! The computers here are all a bit strange, so my pictures all seem to have turned sideways and I can't fix it at the moment, so you'll have to tilt your head to see some of them! Sorry about that :)

One of my favourite things about the island of Bali, is seeing the beautiful temples (called 'pura' in Indonesian) and the religious offerings that people make every day. The main religion in Bali is Balinese Hinduism, and their temples are a bit different to what we're used to back home. Check our the pictures I put up and you'll see that a temple here isn't just one building, it's a collection of small buildings, so it's mostly outside.

Hindus here believe that the spirits of people who have passed away live amongst us, and so three times a day, every day, they make offerings to these spirits to let them know they haven't been forgotten about. The offerings are like little baskets with things like flowers and rice in them. They're very pretty. They also smell good because the people making the offerings (usually women) light incense and put them with the baskets. The smell of incense will always remind me of Bali!

Did you see the picture of the beautiful pink lotus flower? The lotus flower is a symbol of beauty and purity here in Asia, so people grow them outside lots of temples.

Two days ago we went to see a volcano called Mount Batur, near a town called Ubud. I love volcanoes so this was really cool for me! It was a really misty day so we couldn't get good pictures, but if you look really closely at the middle of the volcano, almost at the top, you can see white smoke coming out of the surface of the volcano!

I hope you like the pictures of my adventures here in Indonesia. The people are so friendly here that I never want to leave! Everywhere you walk, people call out 'hello!' and wave, it's lovely.

Let me know if you have any questions at all, I'd love to try and answer them!
