We were a little concerned about crossing the boarder between Switzerland and Austria w/ our ridiculous looking vehicle, but God bless the EU and there open borders! There was a giant weight lifted off our shoulders when we crossed the border. Not to mention it was a beautiful day filled with even more beautiful scenery.
We rented a small apartment in a house right outside of Innsbruck. When we walked in we weren't sure we would ever want to leave again! It was so nice to be in a house aaaaaaaaand it had a beautiful view of the mountains! Almost everything is closed on Sunday in Europe, so we walked to a gas station in the next town to buy some alcohol for our evening of card playing. This begins a long tradition of 2-liter-esque wine bottles. There was a nice restaurant open, so we grabbed some delicious Austrian cuisine before a night of rummy and drinking (Dear cousins who read this blog (and Grandma Lily) , remember when we were little and we would play rummy all the time at family functions? I can't think of the game w/o thinking of you guys!)
We slept in late on Monday and had a lazy early-afternoon of reading and laying around. Then, we drove into the town of Innsbruck to tour the city. The town is really cute and has some amazingly ornate buildings.
We strolled through town, stopped by a nice Bavarian bar, and checked out some more churches. The second church that we went into was built for survivors of the plague in Innsbruck (Chris was our German translator all week. The poor guy heard, "Chris what does this say" about a million times). The church was realllllllly dark and creepy.
We stopped by the grocery store to pick up something to cook up for dinner (in our awesome little apartment) and some more booze. This is where we introduce the other long-standing tradition of the week: Red Bull and Jaeger.
Dinner, Drinking, and Card playing commence.
After our trip into Innsbruck, we decided that we wanted to stay another day (i.e. not have to drive our stuffed car any long distance) so that we could see the Olympic ski jumping track-thing and the castle, but the room wasn't available to stay another night :( No more beautiful mountain view for us ... for now ...
