Last weekend I went to the Jersey Channel Islands to celebrate Thanksgiving with some friends from high school /grade school (Phil and Thia). (I also saw Lion King the Musical before I left). Phil lives in Jersey (technically part of the UK, but you can see France from there) and Thia is studying in Paris this semester. He lives in a nice little beach-side cottage Phil didn't realize that Thanksgiving is actually this week, but it works out well, because now I get to celebrate Turkey Day w/ my group.
So, I flew to Jersey on Thursday. It took me longer to get to the airport than it took me to fly (a think the flight was 30 minutes). Phil, Thia, and I ran some errands, made pies, and drank on Thursday. Friday Phil cooked all day while Thia and I worked on our school work (Thia worked a lot harder than I did, by the way). Phil invited some of his English friends over to partake. It was really fun, because they don't understand the sheer extravagance of Thanksgiving. They kept saying, "This is a lot of food!" and we were like, "That's the point. Now please get out of my way so I can have seconds before eating a slice of every pie that is here." ;) We ate and drank waaaaaaaay to much. The later the night got, the better my British accent got too ...
The weather was terrible on Saturday, so we laid around and watched Christmas movies all day (which is only allowed b/c we had already celebrated Thanksgiving). At one point we decided we should go to the war tunnel museum, but when we got there it was closed ... lame. That night we went out "in town." At about midnight, we decided it completely sucked and we should go back to the cottage to 'have fun.' Mission accomplished.
Sunday morning we had a "proper English Breakfast" with eggs, bacon, ham, hash browns, toast, beans, and tomato. It was quite delicious. Then we decided to drive around the entire island. The coast was absolutely beautiful!! We stopped several times to admire the scenery and get blown away by the incredible wind. The roads there were absolutely insane! The houses came literally right up on to the street. If there was no house there, there was a giant granite wall. It was soo scary. We would come around corners and not be able to see anything but another car/giant truck coming right for us!

Monday morning I headed back to England, just in time to attend my Monday class. It's been almost impossible to pay attention this week w/ the anticipation for the upcoming holiday and thinking about going home!!!!!
Tomorrow (Thanksgiving) we are heading out early to go get Les Miserables tickets. Afterward, we are going to the Thanksgiving service at St. Paul's cathedral that is held by the US ambassador. Later, everyone in the group is preparing something to contribute to the Thanksgiving meal. We'll probably hang out for a bit, then go to the show. For those of you at the Boyer household on Thursday, hopefully I'll get to chat w/ you via webcam. I should be back to the dorm by 11:30 (5:30 pm IL time). Maybe we can have dessert together?
If not, I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!! See you in 3 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
