Hello from the beautiful park of Abel Tasman. We're staying in a motorcamp right opposite the beach - fab. The weather is good which makes seeing the sights all the better. Day 1 we decided to orientate outselves with a boat trip, they did try to get us to go kayaking, but it looked a long way on the map and I was slightly concerned that I wouldn't be back to do the walk the next day so went for the boat option instead - get someone else to do the hard work!!
To get into the sea you had to sit on the boat on the back of a tractor / trailer and then be towed into the sea - quite a random sight aload of people being towed in a boat wearing yellow lifejackets. The boat trip turned out to the water taxi, but without getting off - still you saw all the main sights and got to see how weary people looked when they came back from their walks. Our boat driver was a cheery man (not) and at one beach got very annoyed that some people were not on time for the taxi - only wanted to wait for them for about 2 minutes and we evetually left them there (hope they didn't have to walk the whole track back).
The next day we were walking some of the track - back from Bark Bay to Marahau, which was meant to take 7 hours, it did take us about 6 and think it was about 13 miles - my legs were certainly feeling the effects of such activity. A really stunning walk along the coast & through the woodland.
That evening we treated ourselves to dinner out - it's rock & roll baby!!!
