Flag of Gabon  , Lastoursville,
Wednesday, November 7, 2012

The day started with the objective being Lope national park where we hope to be able to see western lowland gorillas... Lets hope!

Had a great breakfast in the next village (oh dear...clearly not a lot has happened!)

Gabon roads are quite simply incredible, im sure designed by a racing driver! Perfect tar and banking sweeping bends through the forest, the best roads since the Pyrenees!

The people have been very friendly and were back into a absolutely no English territory do its all charades again!

Looking for a bit of adventure we noticed a distinct lack of petrol so we headed to Njdole to fill up to then make the 35km back to turn off for the 130km trip to Lope national park.

So bored of tar? No problem... Have 130km of bone rattling washboard rocky road to the park! That'll teach you... Actually great fun and great scenery, a mix of savannah and forest.

Found the Lope Lodge and a group of Swedish over landers lead by a couple funding their lifestyle by taking people all around Africa. Had a few beers and exchanged stories with them. Lovely people, not a great opinion of SA though which was disappointing!

Been warned off the gorilla tour as it incredibly expensive and they saw nothing except forest... Forest which you can see all around you! Devastated but a bit to be expected. We will have to make do with the sanctuary.
