We got out of town and the day started with the usual amazing scenes. About 70lm out of nouadibhou a goat ran into the road and I hit it. Luckily the impact was taken by the crash bars (hate that name!), 3 inches or a second earlier and I would have gone over. The goat however didn't fair as well... I hope it went quickly but as it was in an informal settlement I had to ride on with out stopping, unfortunately the risk of a backlash or demand for compensation was to great. I think that was my mum looking out for me!
The rest of the day was hectic planning fuel stops, smelling and filtering petrol produced in bottles and jugs and battling the lashing desert winds
The last 100km to the Senegal border were horrendous, potholes and washboards, the bike will need tightening up after that. Pretty challenging riding!
The border into senegals was another story, unfortunately die to the chaos we had to use a fixer with no doubt means bribes we paid, anyway £250 later after taxes, fees, insurance and anything and everything else we lee on the very crossing...it was fun and we were centre of attention!
Time caught up and we got into Senegal at 7pm which meant a night ride to st Louis. Golden rule don't ride at night...you might just hit a goat!
They say after the storm...
We rode into st Louis and immediately the hustle was too much and we drive straight out on the off chance we could find some good camping
We came across French mans 4 rondavela in a salt plain bird sanctuary. I feel he may be the new entry to the hall of fame...
At 9:30pm we knock on his door while he's sleeping on the sofa and his kids are watching tv. We ask for a place to sleep and a cold beer.
Everything suddenly sprang into action, he gave out a load of orders and suddenly beds were made up, we're offered a shower and there's two cold beers on the table. 10 mins later wre having pasta, bread and cheese. None of us can understand a word of each other.
So tired, in going to bed!
