Wednesday 21st March to Sunday 25th March 2007
What a flight! The plane was so old that we were pretty amazed to arrive in India, though the service was excellent which shows you can't always go on appearances! We arrived into the searing heat of Mumbai...yipee!...and still clutching our winter coats! We seem to have become more and laid back and we have arrived with no accommodation! We manage to book a room!!!! Nice! (not). What a culture shock as we cram into a boiling taxi with our luggage hanging out the back and head into Mumbai. The colour and smells are overwhelming! Sadly for a few days we are all a bit below par following our Chinese illness. We moved into a lovely hotel by the Gateway of India and got settled into the chaos of Mumbai. One of the best experiences was sending a parcel home. It took half a day and included having the packages hand-sewn together and sealed with wax, whilst speeding the process up with a few rupees here and there!

Imi celebrated her 7th birthday in Mumbai, which was spent walking along Chowpatty Beach (not for swimming!), supper at "Swati Snacks" and an order of various unknown dishes and drinks, which included a cone, doubling as a birthday cake! We quietly sang "Happy Birthday."

Abi is loving the food, Jack not too impressed and Imi giving it a good go! We walked through markets and took a boat (Deluxe model!) from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Island to walk through the caves and barter for some "locally made" purchases, so nice to sit on the cool waters. Steve finished the day with a head and beard shave! (all with a cut-throat!). We finished our time in Mumbai feeling good, enjoying the heat and chaos, and off to Kerala for sun, sea & sand, and of course some relaxation........
