Ipanema Beach - 13th December 2006
Spent a few hours "frying" on Ipanema Beach! A rough, surfing sea, but managed to have a paddle without being swept away by a rip! Great fun and definitely turned into the "Beardsley beetroots".
Finished off the day with a walk back via the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas to see the World´s largest floating Christmas Tree - pretty unimpressive!!
Rio Sightseeing - 14th December 2006
What a day, hardcore sightseeing taking a cog train up Corcovado to see the Christo Redentor. Then on to the highlight of Brazil (world according to Steve), the Maracana Football Stadium - fantastic!
Quick taxi to Urca to catch the cable car up Sugarloaf Mountain to gaze over the Cidade Maravilhosa ("Marvellous City"). Finally, headed for Lapa, famous for Samba and bars - too early for the party! So we jumped on the local Bonde (tram) for a breathtaking urban Rio experience back up the hill to Santa Teresa for caipirinhas (local sundowners) and dinner. What a couple of days:
Abi - "I was disappointed in the World´s largest floating Xmas Tree as it was not a real one! I loved the cable car to Sugarloaf and cool tram ride"
Imi - "It was hot and not that interesting visiting the Jesus statue. I like doing stuff, not looking at stuff!"
Jack - "I loved swinging on the vines in the park!"
