Where I stayed
I left my interesting accommodation and kept going west on Route 2. It was a windy morning, nice when the sun was out but in the shade...brrr.
Did you know that New Hampshire's motto is Live Free or Die. Wow, Live Free or Die - quite a statement. I always imagined New Hampshire as quaint towns and people with money. That motto obviously shows the people here have guts, I like it!
Stopped at a farmer's market in Lancaster, a cute town. Met a cool lady who makes jewellery with porcupine quills, she showed me her process and we chatted for a while. Then it was time to get a move on. Unfortunately, the northern part of New Hampshire is quite narrow so just after Lancaster, I entered Vermont.
The roads were very busy, must be all the people taking in peak foliage week
Vermont is gorgeous, the tree were painted with fall, quaint small towns, windy country roads with old rickety barns and pumpkin patches. I'd definitely go back. All the towns were crawling with people so I didn't stop much. I did stop in Montpelier which was very nice!
My goal for the day was to reach Burlington which is on Lake Champlain. I found a hotel that had one room left and they wanted $260 for the night. When I stopped laughing, I went to a few other places and the city was booked up. Damn long weekend! I headed south and ended up in Middlebury, in another...interesting place. Sigh...
