Acting Immortal in the Eternal City

Yesterday I landed in Rome with half of my group. The people are really incredible and we are all acting like its "Freshmen Welcome Week" all over again. I've made a lot of great friends who I have been touring around with a lot. Yesterday we wondered the city and got lost, it was an amazing experience. While finding our way back we managed to see the Coloseum, Roman Forum, Monument to Vittorio Emanuel, the Trevi Fountain, and more. All of these great places are like a short five minute walk from each other.
Rome is a beautiful city. Everything there is old and astonishing. Even the alleys and farm land could be considered charming. The food is delicious no matter where you go. A guy pushing a cart could easily open the hottest new restaurant in Chicago. You would have to go out of your way to search for bad food here.
There a few negatives though. Steve's luggage is lost, but it gives him celebrity status in the group. Everybody already knows him pretty well as the guy who lost luggage, they keep introducing themselves and telling him how sorry they are. Another problem is the growing trend of people saying "when in Rome" for just about anything. We had wine with dinner and someone said "when in Rome." We bought time at an Internet cafe and another person said "when in Rome." The worst was when we met at a bar was catching a cab and used "when in Rome" as a reason to use the cab to go five blocks. Other than that (which isn't really much), Rome is an amazing city. I can't wait to see what Florence looks like!
Although I am having a great time in Italy, I miss everyone a lot. Please e-mail me and let me know how everything in your life is going. I will have pictures to send very soon! Brian More thumbnails ...
