Where I stayed
Germany just feels rich ... and in more ways than one. In history, of course and it has an economy on the upswing again and it's noticeable ... from the nicely paved streets and fancy cars on the autobahn to the restoration and construction going on ... seems like it's a good time to be German.
We arrived in Dresden on Sunday evening and stayed at the Suitess Hotel. A very nice hotel in an excellent location. The kind woman working at the front desk gave us complimentary drinks while we waited in the lounge for her to organize our lodging and when we were settled in, she advised us away from the touristy restaurants near the city center to an excellent Italian restaurant located a scenic 10 minute leisurely walk towards the water.
A statue of Martin Luther here, a bombed out hole in the ground where there was likely some amazing architecture there and wind that cut through you like a knife ..
In the morningish on Monday, we headed out to take in more of the city and to grab a snack/lunch. We have not been able to make one complimentary breakfast yet. I've had a difficult time changing schedules and when not driving and visiting, I'm writing and sorting through photos to wind down at the end of the day. For example, here I am writing and it's 2:24 a.m in Wuppertal, Germany on Tuesday where we are now and where we arrived about four hours ago to Tim's brother's house. It's 5:24 p.m. Monday at my home in Eureka, California.
We left Dresden and headed to Leipzig, Germany for a short stop. We continued making the trek across the country from east to west and I just pushed the pedal to the metal in this little Ford Fiesta that we're cruising in. My top speed was almost 180 km today. I can tell you that does not even compare to what an Audi can do. I'd say nine out of ten cars that blew by us were Audi's. They are fast. That's from hours and hours of my own observation. I'm sure there are other cars that are fast, too but Audi's seem to be the favored cars of the majority of the speedy.
Anyhoo ... we have made it to Wuppertal, Germany and had a lovely dinner with family and new friends and we're excited about seeing and learning more about this city later today. I just tried to post this and my Internet connection was not to be, so I have succeeded in waking up the family dog Ginger and probably the whole house in my middle of the night wandering towards a better hot spot. So this posting will have to wait until the later morning for me ...
