Entry 19 of 20 | show all | print this entry

If you're reading this blog then you already know, my trips coming to an end, the windows have been borded up, I have literally overstayed my monetary and visa allowance and am forced to turn tail and fly away home.  A few stops and adventures should come of my commute to Portland; starting in Manado, Sulawesi Indonesia on the 4th, currently in Jakarta Java (one night), then to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia on the 5th for 7hrs, stopping in Bangkok till the 6th for a quicky w/ Katy "kaos" aka queen of the Naga, aka the sea hag, aka the jib in your sail, then it's an easy ride to Tokyo then back in time to San Fransisco and finally to Portland.  This was one of the worst routes to get home, but it will work, plus I found a kick ass fried chicken stand in Jakarta w/ a new kind of hotsauce that got a nice pop-w/-a-kick, So I got THAT going for me.
Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that I didn't forget about that sweet land of liberty, and all the hype that comes along with it.  It's often said, but time flys when you travel and it's been close to the fastest 90 days I've spent.  I must say that I will for sure be back to this part of the world, Indonesia requires a whole trip in itself to get a glimpse of what these islands have to offer a hydrolithic guy like myself.  I hope  you all have had enough "Stracco celibacy" for the year  b/c it's time for overloading the system once again (until I get a job that is).  Have to say the last few days were nice to reflect, seems Jonah and I have had very different times since we parted.  He's been full throttle in Bangkok (fast food, fast tuk-tuks, fast women, and of course crazy kaos (fast). while I've been living the family life outside of Manado, hanging w/ the local family relaxing and trying my hand at cooking, cleaning, and some Indonesian jokes that I'll never really understand.
Well I know people probably get bored w/ blogs w/ no pictures so I'm sure at this point I can write more banter and no one will really notice.  But even when I'm far off traveling, fishing, working, or whatever I do that keeps me away from all my friends and family.  I do appreciate just knowing that I have places to come back to that I'm loved and understood (as much as is possible).  Seriously though, I miss a most of you people all of the time, and all of you folks some of the time, but not all of you folks all of the time (not you though).   Jonah and I have got a lot of smiles and laughs thinking about all the people we care about and what specific people's reactions would be if they were in the same awkward situation as us (especially Michael "burns" Friedich though).
Enough though, time to fly and get bored and sleep, and become cranky and spend my rupiah, rhinget, baht and dollars before I have a pocket full of worthless change back in the states.  Hope to see all or at least most of my peeps before the next episode begins again.
P.S.  OBAMA '08, I always new that Texas couldn't be trusted!

Hope you haven't gotten too fat from all the cats you've been eating so you can come snowboarding.

Glad to hear this reflective posting. Those poor Texans. They are trying to figure it out. It sounds as though your last days are ones I would love. Have a safe journey to the USA.
