S21, Killing Fields and the Cambodian Escape
Entry 26 of 52 | show all | print this entry |
Today was a pretty gruesome one
We started off by getting picked up by the guesthouse owners Father (He drives a taxi on days off but is an Army Lieutenant otherwise) He first took us to S-21, you can read about it and research it, but an actual visit can chill you to the bones. Also just reading about peoples stories and seeing photos up and around the place is crazy...
Next we were off to the Killing Fields. For those of you that don't know this is where Khmer Rogue Soldiers took people held at S-21 to be executed, often by smashing their skulls open to conserve bullets. This was definately another chilling place.
Now we originally planned to head down to Sihanoukville tommorrow and cross into Thailand overland down that way but after eating lunch in a restaurant where we were hassled several times to buy Sunglasses, Tuk tuk Rides, Books, Drugs, Girls and the oppurtunity to go shooting all whilst eating and getting sick of stepping in peoples piss that was running through weeks of rubbish on the street we needed to get out and swiftly booked a Bangkok Airways flight back to Bangkok, it almost felt like coming home.
