WE ARE HERE!!!

Hello everyone! (their keyboard is a bit different than ours so i apologize if there are different characters i don´t catch). We arrived safe and sleep deprived Wednesday morning. We apologize for not posting anything sooner but we thought we would have Internet by now and we don´t due to a variety of issues. I don´t even know where to begin to tell you all about our adventures thus far. Dan only slept for about 2 hours during the flight so he was rather tired when we arrived. We had to take 2 taxis to our apartment from the airport because we had so much stuff. Our apartment is like a dorm room. I will try to post some pictures soon but I don´t know if I¨ll be able to or not at the cafe. Our kitchen is in a "closet" but it works. Our fridge is a dorm fridge but we don´t have a lot of stuff to keep there so it will work! the bed situation i think is fine but Dan disagrees... only because he doesn´t have a mattress pad for his mattress... picky picky :) Dan Interjecting: its like sleeping on the floor! Overall the apartment is very comfortable and nice. This is their first time renting so everything is new! The towels and some of the dishes still have their tags on them!!!
After we unpacked and settled in without killing each other we ventured out into the city. We live in Palermo (like Lincoln Park of Chicago). We went and got some food (Dan had an unbelievably good cappuccino) and went grocery shopping. After we checked out we found out that we can have our food delivered to our apartment for free. That´s just so cool to me. Don´t have to walk the 4 blocks home carrying all the heavy stuff! We live a block away from the park. I´ve never seen so many cats in my life in one place. In the rest of Latin America there were dogs everywhere roaming around... here its CATS. Wait till you see the pictures!!!!
The weather is HOT and HUMID. We went home and showered and then went out to dinner. At night the weather is very nice here and we were able to sit outside!! The sun is up here until 9 PM so we are totally lost with time and it doesn´t help that we don´t get up and moving till 2 in the afternoon. (we are 3 hours ahead of Chicago). We went to Plaza Güemo after dinner. There were kids playing soccer, families enjoying the night, saw the Basilica.
At this point Dan was falling asleep walking so we went home and he was out before his head hit the pillow.
We slept till about 2 PM and got up showered and then went to Recolata where our school is located.
The school is about an 8 minute subway ride followed by a 15 minute walk if you don´t get lost like we did. But we did eventually find the school which is going to be intense. So while we were walking we found a bunch of Dublin's and tralees, the city seems confusing at times since nothing runs north and south. All the maps face a different direction and north is just an obscure idea! The class that is currently in sessions seems to enjoy it but fore warned us of the intensity. We will have about 16 students total in our class and we found out today that our start date has been pushed back to Wednesday because they need a second teacher due to the class size and he won´t be here by Monday so Dan and I are all for the extra vacation time.
I/we found a very good ice cream parlor right by the Louis Vúitton (the important thing for Dan). I wouldn´t let him go into the Louis store. (side comment the radio is playing Ace of Base right now... and they are so into the 80s & 90s era of music) Recolata reminds us of Paris. We went to the cemetery where Evita is buried. The mausoleums in this cemetery were breathe taking... really indescribable so we took pictures. Overall we are enjoying the country. There is so much to see and learn.
Dan keeps reading the Foders book for Argentina and looking at maps; he keeps saying oh we need to go here and here and oh Sarah this place sounds cool. It´s rather entertaining.
This morning we were suppose to get Internet installed in the apartment and have a "perfect" day but the CD drive didn´t work on the computer while the Internet man was there. Of course after he leaves Dan fixes that issue then we think he fried the battery charger... stupid 220 voltage. Along with the fact that we couldn´t get anything to work or figure out how to call people... it was a learning experience to say the least. Some how we are still alive and pleasant with each other and now we found an Internet cafe and the day if fine. Today it´s rainy so we´re going to stay indoors (museums and cathedrals and grocery shopping and fun stuff like that)
Over all i love it here and we are having a blast... !
We hope everyone is doing well and we love you all. Thank you for your support and prayers! We forgot our address and phone number at home so next time we post we will have that info Sarah and Dan :)

Suggestion for looking at pictures... (reply) Jan 26, 2007 15:18 EST by basa1126
We have 'descriptions' that go along with some of the pictures and if you view the pictures as a slide show you will not be able to read the descriptions. View the pictures in the album and you will be able to read the story that goes along with the picture. Thank you all for your love and support. Enjoy!!!
