Having had a couple of far too early mornings, it was nice not to have to be out of bed before dawn. Instead we had a sleep in, wandering over to the restaurant only just in time for breakfast. We got chatting to a couple who were from Wyoming and they were very interested in Australia. As members of their local Rotary club, they had a good friend living in Queensland that they had met through a Rotary convention. After breakfast, we planned to go and see Old Faithful. We had already seen the plume of steam as we were on our way to breakfast, and now it was time to see it 'live'. It had already snowed quite a bit during the night, and it sarted snowing quite heavily. We made our way across to the visitor centre and saw that we had time to watch a movie about the  Yellowstone thermal features. As we headed out to see Old Faithful erupt, the snow falling just got heavier and heavier. By the time Old Faithful went off, we had a grey sky, white snow and white steam completely obscuring any sight of the water emerging from the geyser. While spectacular to look at and listen to, it did not make for interesting photographs. In order to avoid the chills that were certainly setting in, we went back to the lodge, obtaining food and drinks from the cafe and then retiring back to the room. Christmas present wrapping had already been completed, so it was time to decorate our Christmas tree. Outside our window was a number os baby lodge-pole pines. I carefully beat a path through the snow, out to the pine - the snow coming up well past my knees. I added the battery powered Christmas lights we had purchased, as well as the packet of decorations. It wasn't the most spectacular tree I have ever seen - but it was nice to have sitting just outside the window. The batteries for the lights lasted about six hours before they became too cold and stopped working at about 10:00 o clock. A very pleasant and filling meal was capped off (for me at least) with a jumbo mug of Belgian Hot Chocolate with a shot of Frangelico. Yum Yum.
