slept properly for a few nights because of the attitude so another
night at 4450m in a freezing cold room, trying to catch my breath and
getting up a 4-30 for breakfast is not some thing to look forward to
.Maja seems fine with the attitude and sleeps like a baby.
As we get to breakfast people are already leaving with head torches
on it will be another hour before it gets light so we wonder if we are
leaving it to late, we meet up the the others for porridge eggs and
sweet tea and are the last to leave the lodge.
The thorung la pass is the highest pass in the world at 5416m/17769ft,
that's four Ben nevises or 608m/3077ft higher than Mont blanc, higher
even than everest base camp. Every year people get court out by
altitude sickness or the weather and die. You pass the grave of Rick
Allen who got altitude sickness near the top unfortunately so did his
companion and the third person could only save one..
Luckily for us it was a beautiful day and although it was
dishearteningly steep at first it became less as we gained altitude
witch was just as well as it was becoming impossible to catch you
breath, it felt like every one was walking in slow motion and
breathing like Tomas the tank engine going up a steep hill.
After a seemingly never ending series of false summits we enter a
bumpy moonscape that's the top, maja was already there as she seems
to be able to breath on the moon. The views are of the highest
mountains in the world but even the highest are only 3000 m above, the
sky is so dark blue its almost black and you can see for what looks
like infinity.
The weather changes very quickly and starts to snow so we start going
down the other side. We get in town about 4-30 its only 3700m here so
it feels very warm and easy to breath, we meet up with five American
guys we met on the pass, stopped for one beer that turned into many,
that we didn't have a shower get changed just crash, I slept like a
baby
