Just arrived after our bullet train ride, which would you believe was right on time! Very quiet here, quite a culture change from Tokyo. We`ll be here for 3 nights, so will update more later. Off to see some `snow monkeys` tomorrow!
Updated 2/3/08... Well tonight is our last night here, as we get the train to Kyoto in the morning. The main attraction of this part of the world was the scenery and the short trip to see the "snow monkeys". We were not disappointed. In fact, there were approximately 200 monkeys we saw bathing in hot pools, playing with snowballs, jumping on people and generally "monkeying around" in the snow - a real highlight of our travels. The trip there and our time spent with the monkeys took up most of our day yesterday and today we have spent our time in Obuse itself.
The town is quite sleepy. There are a few museums and craft shops to keep you interested for half a day or so. So after a full day here we`re feeling well relaxed and ready to move on to Kyoto and a slightly faster pace. More thumbnails ...
