Travelled today to Chiang Khong in preparation for travelling into Laos tomorrow, on a 2 day trip down the Mekong river.
Accomodation here was arranged by a travel agent in Bangkok, and we had no idea what to expect. As it was, it was very basic, but clean, and just outside our room is a great view accross the mekong river, giving us a first look at Laos. Not much more to say about things here. We spent the evening wondering what to expect for the next couple of days, as our river trip is expected to take 14 hours split over 2 days, with an overnight stopover (for which we have been able to organise accomodation for from here) in a town which by all accounts and decriptions in our guide book as a bit of a dump. Our ultimate destination, Luang Prabang, however does sound like it will be worth it when we arrive - here's hoping!
