Tina and I whizzed through Jaipur and Delhi on our way to flying out to Egypt. Jaipur was terribly polluted but had some cool, but not breathtaking architechture to look at. Watch out for the scammers there, they are scarily accomplished. Don't be taken in by people saying they are 'wholesalers and don't do bargaining at this warehouse'. All a big scam. Highlight of Jaipur was probably our trip out to the Amber Fort/Palace. It was the Rajputs old palace, in a string of forts along a 15km ridge that dominates the whole area.
Delhi was much dirtier than I remember from December. Tina and I stayed in the madness of Pahar Ganj with its cows, overcrowding, mix of people especially nutty Israelis, power outages and cheap Lonely Planets. We saw the Red Fort Sound and Light show and then the Fort in the day. Both are worth doing, as is going to Jama Masjid, the biggest mosque in India. Like the Taj Mahal they are all products of the fertile mind and deep pockets of Shah Jahan of the Moguls.
I ate my last Indian food for awhile, how I miss it so...Of course Tina is thanking her lucky stars to be able to eat Middle Eastern food now.
