But before golf, I had breakfast at Denny's and sat adjacent to 4 American golfers incessantly talking about gambling on the golf course. (Sometimes it's difficult to avoid over-hearing conversations especially when sat alone and so close to others.) The rules they were describing were more complicated than those of the game itself. So much so that, who won what and with whom seemed to be more important than who shot the lowest score. Quite frankly I don't know why they bothered, coz after the 6th hole and their 1st 6 pack they'll all be drunk as lords know any different anyway!
I met Bill and Neil on the back nine at Cimarron (I guess both were old enough to be my father - just!)Nice couple of blokes, Bill especially was very reserved, to the point of being shy (he could have been an English gentleman) Neil was a bit more outspoken I guess coz he originated from a rough part of Newark. Apparently, the place a picked up the RV, in Newark, is on the outskirts of New York gangland. I think that explains all the bumps, scratches and broken glass on the vehicle!
Bill was very interested in my experiences with the RV, as though he wanted to do something similar.
Which leads me to the point that, most Americans are "geographically challenged" they know where places are in the States but they have never been; they watch a lot of TV. And outside the US they are "US". They think that Spain is in the next state after the UK just across the highway from France (like Nevada is to California) and that anybody they have met from Ireland and Scotland, I ought to know! They have no idea we have a country in the UK called Wales, but who gives a " ...." about Wales anyway!
Also, I've learnt that other than Gambling, Americans are also pre-occupied with Eating and Politics. So as a generalisation, most middle aged americans have addiction problems, look obese and talk shit! (And I know I'm not far out with that synopsis)
As for Desert Dunes, I finally found what I was looking for (unlike U2). "Left arm straight at address" solves all my "hooking" problems. And because of that I might stay another week in Palm Springs or I might not.
