Where I stayed
Olly and Maija's holiday pad
Northstar is one of Tahoe's several ski resorts. Tahoe is a genuine year-round outdoor playground. Its beauty beckons you out to enjoy its natural riches whether on skis, snowboard, bike, boat or car. Northstar becomes a mecca for mountain bikers and hikers in the summer. We parked up and wandered around the resort at the foot of the mountain before getting a cable car up the hill. We took in the sights before strolling up to the Ritz Carlton, perched on the Northstar slopes, for some lunch.
After a leisurely lunch on the mountain we had a vital job to do - picking up Olly's new truck from Reno
The first outing for the new truck involved loading up with bikes and boys and driving out to the nearby Riverview Sports Park BMX track. It was the Walker boys first go at BMX riding. The first aid kit got put to good use! Maybe knee pads and elbow pads next time. It took a little while for the boys to get used to it, but they were both tearing around before long. After some great fun and a few scrapes in the afternoon sun we all headed back to Kings Beach.
Olly and Maija introduced us to a California delicacy for dinner as the boys collapsed in front of a film. Tri-tip roasted on the barbecue. Tri-tip is a cut of beef from the bottom sirloin subprimal, apparently. Whatever it was it was very tasty indeed, especially accompanied by some suitably aerated red wine. I could get used to this.
