Where I stayed
Hacienda RV Park
. There were a few changes in the terrain as we progressed along the long roads. Colors went from green to light green, then brown and rocky. As we drove along I told Sarge I couldn't believe there was no traffic...then we finally hit El Paso and for 13 miles there was so much traffic you wouldn't believe. We finally arrived into New Mexico...the terrain changed even again. Las Cruces is about 30 miles from Texas but very different. We arrived at the campground at around 2:00 pm, yeah we gained an hour today! Very beautiful with the mountains in the background. Also, the temperature was 89 and so sunny! We went downtown to the old town of Mesilla...which is where the US bought land from Mexico in 1854 with the Gadsden Purchase. No, I have never heard of this purchase but we bought this land and parts of Arizona from Mexico for 10 million dollars here in Mesilla. Also, the court house where the trial of Billy the Kid was held in 1881 for the murder of Sheriff Brady...he was sentenced to hang for this crime. We also went to a beautiful church the Basilica of San Albino...I found out that a basilica is a high ranking church in the catholic religion and is conferred by the pope. There are 60 basilicas in the US. Back to the campground and making dinner. Really tired tonight...doing nothing and just riding really wears you out!!!
Well, last night walking to dinner was very dramatic. As we were going to the little campground cafe an older couple was walking ahead of us and the woman slipped on the side of the walkway and fell head first into the little pond hitting the side of her mouth on a rock. Oh my God...it was awful there was blood and teeth everywhere. We helped her up into a chair and the campground called 911 she was transported to the local hospital. We stopped in the office after dinner but they didn't know how she was...it was bad!!! I was a little freaked out as I had her blood all over my hand and sweatshirt. Got all washed up but still a little rattled. I keep thinking about her. We got up early and left the campground by 8:15 am!!!! This was really unbelievable for us. On the road to New Mexico. Texas is the longest state in the world. We traveled about 270 miles today and 250 of it was in Texas. Crazy how long the roads are and with nothing on the roads at all. Just long lonely roads, I was going crazy with nothing to look at...when I get bored just take a few road pictures
