Sorted out our travel arrangements in the morning while we waited for the Niagara tour in the afternoon.  First on the tour was the "Skylon Tower" which is an observation deck from which you have 360 degree view of the area.  It was good to put everything in perspective.  The guide took us around the area, showing us the hydroelectricity process, botanical gardens, floral clock, so as well as the "glitzy, tourist, souvenir shop" areas of town there is a Niagara township behind.  We were then taken on "The Maid of the Mist" boat tour and donned our provided raincoat, hopped on board and taken into the midst of the falls - first passed the American Falls, the Bridal Falls and then th "Horseshoe Falls".  At water level, you get much more of the power and force of the falls (100metre fall - not the longest but the most water), including the amount of water and the deafening noise.   We also went behind the falls where once again you put on a raincoat and go in behind the falls and can see the falls from a ledge about half way down.  A lot of water is now being harvested from the falls and therefore the erosion rate has been slowed down quite considerably.  We also toured the Bird Aviary which was excellent where more time could be spent.  We saw birds that we have never seen before and there were plenty of them in an excellent display area that was really accessible.  We saw macaws, toucans, golden peasants, finches, large birds, small birds, queer birds???  They called a magpie an Australian singing crow.  We had a very nice dinner watching the fireworks over the illuminated falls on the 33rd floor of the Hilton.
