Today was a little more overcast but we set off late morning to have a look around Victoria as well as go to Mary Ann's cabin on Shawnigan Lake. It was a very pretty drive and we saw some nice suburbs of Victoria which as tourists you usually don't see. We saw deer eating the gardens in the suburbs. We went to various parks and lookouts and saw Garry Oak trees, Arbutus trees that shed their bark, before arriving at the lake which was about 45 minutes drive from house to house if you drove directly. The cabin was right on the edge of the lake and Mary Ann's husband Mike, had a ski boat and took us for a tour of the lake. It was very pretty with houses dotted all along the lake. Mary Ann and I went out on kayaks and explored more of the lake. She works in Education and is currently working on curriculum items for the Winter Olympics to be held in Vancouver in 2010. The mascot for the games is "Inukshuk" which is the cairn made by Eskimos to mark the place where food has been stored. Mike then took us all by boat to dinner at the West Arm Diner which was on the lake. We picked blackberries and ate them.
