We tried a very common form of transport here in Vancouver - the float plane. We went to Victoria which is the capital city of British Columbia on Vancouver island. It is a 30 minute journey by floatplane but a 4 hour journey by boat. We left at 7.45am and it was foggy to begin with but as we left the fog lifted and it was a very scenic flight flying over little islands, dotted with beautiful houses and golf links. Mary Anne Neale was there to met us. Graham had met Mary Ann many years ago through Mackay Sugar when Mary Ann came to Australia promoting a process to make building materials from sugar cane. She took us to a beautiful spot on the harbour for breakfast and then she drove us around Victoria. It is a beautiful city. I prefer it to Vancouver. We saw seals in the harbour, had delicious local oysters for lunch, had dinner at Mary Ann's and then went downtown after dinner. Shops were open, buskers and bands were playing in the streets, horse and carriages were taking people for a city tour, buildings especially the government buildings were beautifully lit. Chalet type hotels like the famous "Empress" and clean well maintained streets and buildings make it a very liveable place.
