We met David (Graham's son) at the airport, left Nice behind and drove along the coast road. The road is extremely scenic with the road along the high cliffs with views down to the sea. We drove along the Moyenne Corniche and could see Eze village. It is a fortified medieval village perched up on its rocky spur like an Eagle's nest. We had delicious sea bass for lunch with an amazing view over the St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsular. Arriving in Monaco, we drove up to see the famous square with the Monte Carlo Casino and the Hotel de Paris. There were many tourists taking photos of the superb cars (Ferraris, Bentleys, Rolls etc) and the buildings. The Casino was first among the great casinos and was opened in 1863 and is paved with marble. The Hotel de Paris, built in 1864 is truly legendary, combining luxury and tradition, comfort and modernity and is also situated on the mythical Place du Casino. David had booked us in here and it was a very special treat. The panoramic restaurant was magnificent. All this amongst the beautiful gardens of the square carry on the Monte Carlo fairy tale. Of course, we had to check out the inside of the Casino and luckily Graham came out with a little more than what he went in with!!!!
