It was up early and off to Heathrow on our way to Nice.  The flight was excellent with us able to see the English countryside, the white cliffs of Dover and the bigger farms of France.  We flew over the French Alps and then the beautiful sight of the Mediterranean Sea.   The blue of the sea being broken by the many boats speeding passed.  We landed at the Cote d'Azur airport after a two hour flight.  We had a long wait for our hire car and for the first time for ages we felt the heat of a summer's day.  I noticed with a feeling of home sickness, the gum trees where we picked up the car and also throughout Nice.   So off we set, with Graham doing a good job concentrating on driving on the right hand side of the road and me trying to decipher the directions on the Tom Tom which didn't really know we were driving on the other side of the road.  So it wasn't long before we were bumbling down the 8 mile long, famous La Promenade des Anglais trying to find our Hotel without causing too much horn blowing.  After doing the block several times, weaving our way through extremely narrow streets, negotiating the one way streets and going up and down the promenade, we found the hotel.  And what a surprise!!! Once again we had booked it on the internet and it was right in the centre and within walking distance of all we wanted.  Nice, the capital city of the French Riviera with its azure blue Mediterranean Sea did not disappoint.  As far as you could see the Baie des Anges (Bay of Angels) stretched out lined with the beautiful beaches.  It was like the Gold Coast on steroids.  It was lovely to feel the heat of the sun again and we spent a very enjoyable evening wandering along the Promenade and having mussels for dinner at one of the many alfresco eating places.
