This morning I went for a walk along the Thames and up to the Sonning Lock. It was so tiny compared to the Russian locks, but so pretty. It was very busy with the typical houseboat going through as well as more modern craft. It would be such a wonderful way to travel through England and Wales - by houseboats through the canals and a couple of people I spoke to as they went through were doing just that. One couple was Australian. Back in the car, we set off to visit friends in Longcot. I have a funny feeling the Tom Tom took us in a round about fashion, but we were happy to see the countryside. Longcot is in the Vale of White Horse, south of Oxford. John and Ellie took us on a scenic drive up on the hills were the white house had been carved into the hillside many many years ago. The chalk hills also provided the building materials for the houses of the area. We then enjoyed picking and eating the apples and plums from their fruit trees and enjoying Ellie's cooking.
